New Fence
Posted by: nuggett @ 2:40 pm

We have a new fence along the side of the front yard.  It used to be wood and I could not see through it very well.  The new one is iron, so there is lots of space to poke my nose through and to get a good look at the dogs and people who walk by.

A family of blue birds has moved into the side garden - the one with the brick patio. They do not like it when I go out there and they dive bomb me.  Poor Sandi! They even dive bombed her and she would not hurt a flea.  They must have babies out there that they are protecting.  I think they live in a nest in the big old yew that is almost as big as a tree. They must not know that this is my yard.

We have done more porch-sitting lately and it has been GREAT! Warm during the day; cool at night.  Cannot wait for this evening!

Got to run, guests are coming and I need to help fluff the room.

We’re Green!

Pat and Mike say we’ve been certified as a green lodging!   I believe it - the grass is green, the bushes are blooming, the leaves on the trees are green, there’s green pollen on the porch - but I think it relates to something else.  Something about conserving water, electricity and reducing our carbon footpoint — though I don’t know how I can reduce my footprint; it’s pretty small already.

Grass is so tall, we had to mow it.  We have a new battery powered mower - not electric and not gas.  It was so quiet passersby couldn’t figure out why we were walking back and forth in the yard!  I’ve decided I want to help mow every week this year - there are such good smells in the yard and there are birds and squirrels everywhere.  But when I get close to play, they run away up into the trees. I haven’t figured out how to get up there yet. Maybe I’ll conquer that next month.

Been a little chilly for porch time.  I run to the front door but no one follows.  Maybe once a week or so we all go out and sit on the porch in the evening.  I’ll be glad when it is an every day occurrence.  Sandi, my partner cock-a-poo, keeps making her way to the front door only to hear “Sandi, it’s too cold right now, maybe tomorrow.” And, finding her way to the front door is hard for an old blind girl dog.

We’ve had lots of company, but they forget I am here and forget treats and no one has let me try out the new beds upstairs yet.

Well, it’s lunchtime - so I am off.  Will check in later!

February 2008

New mattresses came for the guest rooms - something called Beautyrest Black Label Beverly Hills Pillow Top.  Guests love them, though no one has invited me up for a test drive yet. Maybe I should call that toll-free number and order one for myself!

Moldings are all finished in the garden room and the painters are due to arrive Tuesday, February 26th.  Pat picked blue for the ceiling and green for the walls in the garden room; and red for dining room walls.  Just a few more accessories are needed to complete the look.

Mona and Tony of GiammarinoDworkin Photography came by to take new photos of the inn for the website.  Soon Mike will have professional photos for the web. They took photos of the guest rooms, the parlor, the dining room, and some food shots too.  Even Mike got in the picture!  They’ll be coming back when the garden gets going strong to take some exterior photos and of the completed garden room.  Maybe the next time they will bring their canine companion.  She sure smells nice.

We took a quick weekend break to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to celebrate our friend, Glenn’s birthday.  Glenn’s new canine, Noble, is a great dog to run around with in the yard.  Geese were everywhere and there was evidence of foxes, deer, and bunny rabbits. It’s way different from the city life.  On the way up, we stopped by Grandma’s to do some chores: fix her chandelier, mount her address numbers under the outside light, and pick up sticks in the yard.  I wish I could visit her more often; she is such a nice lady.

Oops! Guests at the door and it’s my job to greet them - maybe they’ll have treats!

Well January has been a busy month at The William Miller House. My masters were off to the Bed and Breakfast Conference in Natural Bridge Virginia and return with great ideas to make your stay at the B&B an even more enjoyable experience.

Pat finally got that turquoise bench in the Touch of France room reupholstered and I got to go for the pickup and delivery to Mrs. Sutton’s shop, smelling old fabric on the floor is almost as good as a trip to PetSmart.

Mike’s been working in the garage painting new molding for the Wine Room, however, I prefer to call it the garden room becuse it looks out on the east garden and I am beginning to think about spring and sitting on the porch.

The month of February hold great promise so be sure to check my Blog from time to time.

Welcome to Nugget’s Blog

We asked both Nuggett and Sandi to write the blog because they often time have a better perspective of you the guest. Unfortunately Sandi declined, since going blind several years ago she said Nuggett had a better view than she did and he was younger so he should have to do the work.

So this is events and happenings at the The William Miller House from Nuggett’ perspective…
